Safety and Security: European Commission Updates ICS2 Entry Summary Declaration Requirements

As goods continue to move into the European Union, compliance with the EU's Import Control System 2 (ICS2) remains a critical operational priority for freight forwarders, carriers, and logistics professionals across all transport modes.

The European Commission's Taxation and Customs Union has published an updated factsheet outlining the key requirements for the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS). Under ICS2, the carrier or filing party is legally responsible for the accuracy and completeness of every ENS submission and missing or incorrect information may result in customs delays and penalties.

Key filing rules include providing accurate and complete ENS data at master, house, and goods item level; declaring house consignment level data for each shipment without consolidating into a single generic entry; declaring items with different Harmonised System (HS six-digit) codes separately; and responding promptly to customs requests for additional information or amendments. Unacceptable goods descriptions, including "unknown" or "not available", must not be used.

The factsheet is available in multiple languages via the EU Publications Office and can be accessed through the link below. FIATA strongly encourages all its members, across air, maritime, road, and rail, to review the updated requirements and ensure they are shared with the relevant teams within their organisations.}

Cybersecurity: Beware of Fraudulent Emails Impersonating FIATA

FIATA wishes to draw the attention of all its Members to a recent increase in fraudulent emails falsely claiming to originate from FIATA. Several Members have already reported receiving such communications, and FIATA encourages all Members to remain vigilant.

These phishing emails are designed to appear legitimate, often using the FIATA name, logo, and Geneva address, while being sent from external, non-FIATA email addresses. Their purpose is to trick recipients into revealing personal or financial information, or into making payments to fraudulent accounts. As a rule, all legitimate communications and invoices from FIATA are sent exclusively from the fiata.org domain. Any email originating from a different domain should be treated with caution.

FIATA recommends that all Members stay S.A.F.E.:

  • Stop before responding to unexpected emails or clicking on any links
  • Assess the sender's identity and the nature of the request carefully
  • Flag any message that seems unusual, especially those requesting personal or payment details
  • Escalate the issue to your IT team or supervisor before taking any action

To verify your membership status or upcoming renewals, Members are encouraged to log in directly to the FIATA Member Area using the primary email address displayed in the Members Directory. FIATA also recommends enabling two-step authentication where available and bookmarking www.fiata.org to avoid visiting lookalike websites.

A recent case reported by one of our Members serves as a timely reminder of the importance of vigilance. A fraudulent email impersonating FIATA's Membership Team was received, requesting membership payment from an address that had no connection to FIATA.

FIATA Events: Romania to Host SEEFF Congress & 2026 FIATA-REU Field Meeting

From 18 to 20 May 2026, Bucharest will host a key gathering for the European freight forwarding community, bringing together the European Congress SEEFF 2026 and the FIATA-Region Europe (REU) Field Meeting. Organised in collaboration with the Romanian Freight Forwarders Association (USER), the event will convene industry leaders, policymakers and logistics professionals from across the region.

Held in a context of evolving regulatory frameworks, increasing digitalisation and continued pressure on supply chains, the meeting will provide a timely platform for dialogue on the priorities shaping European logistics. Discussions will address key topics including supply chain security and resilience, the implementation of digital transport documents such as eCMR and eFTI, and ongoing developments in international conventions governing multimodal transport.

More than a conference, the event will foster stronger regional cooperation by bringing together freight forwarders, transport operators, public authorities and technology providers. Participants will benefit from high-level exchanges, practical insights and opportunities to align on common challenges and solutions across the European logistics landscape.

Taking place over three days, the programme will combine strategic discussions with networking opportunities, supporting deeper engagement within the regional freight forwarding community. The event also marks a significant milestone as the first FIATA meeting hosted in Romania, reflecting the country’s growing role within the European logistics sector.

Registration for the SEEFF 2026 Congress and the FIATA-REU Field Meeting is now open. Members are encouraged to secure their participation and contribute to shaping the future of logistics in Europe.
