New Pricing for Digital Negotiable FIATA Multimodal Transport Bill of Lading (eFBL)
Starting 1 January 2025, FIATA will implement a simplified and more accessible pricing model for the digital negotiable FIATA Multimodal Transport Bill of Lading (eFBL). This change reflects FIATA’s commitment to driving digitalisation in logistics and creating a more efficient, tech-driven future for the industry.
Key Pricing Details:
- Issuance Price: CHF 0.50 per eFBL document for all FIATA Members.
- Amendment Fee: CHF 2.00 for each amendment to the digital record.
- Effective Date: 1 January 2025.
FIATA’s goal is to make digital tools more accessible, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, reducing the barriers to digitalisation. The eFBL enhances operational efficiency, improves document security, and accelerates trade processes.

FIATA Working Group Sea Meeting in London: Shaping the Future of the Maritime Supply Chain
On 28 and 29 November 2024, the FIATA Working Group Sea (WG Sea) meeting convened in London, United Kingdom, graciously hosted by British International Freight Association (BIFA) and TT Club. The first day focused on key topics influencing the maritime supply chain. Discussions began with an analysis of the current state of the maritime industry, exploring potential future developments in areas such as decarbonisation, digitalisation, and data governance. Participants also addressed the significance of Pre-Loading Advance Cargo Information (PLACI) regimes, with a particular focus on the European Union ICS2 Release 3, which is set to extend the ICS2 regime to maritime transport from 4 December 2024.
The second day featured a presentation by representatives of the Cargo Integrity Group (CIG), Michael Yarwood from TT Club, Anna Larsson from the World Shipping Council (WSC) and James Hookham from the Global Shippers Forum (GSF). The group outlined its objectives and ongoing work, while FIATA, TT Club, the Global Shippers Forum, and the World Shipping Council engaged participants in a lively discussion on ways to raise awareness of the CTU Code and better address the needs of the freight forwarding community in relation to container safety and packing practices. The meeting concluded with a visit to the London Gateway Port, where participants were welcomed by DP World. The visit included an insightful presentation on DP World’s activities and a tour of the port, providing an invaluable on-the-ground perspective of its operations.

FIATA Enhances Collaboration with the IMO on Key Maritime Issues

On 27 November, FIATA representatives FIATA Senior Vice President and FIATA Working Group Sea Chair Jens Roemer; FIATA Director General, Dr Stéphane Graber; FIATA Legal Services Director, Andrea Tang; and FIATA International Trade and Law Officer, Leticia Cherini, met with members of the Maritime Safety Division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London: Mr Hiroyuki Yamada, Director; Brice Martin-Castex, Deputy Director; Julian Abril Garcia, Head of the Facilitation Section; Alfredo Parraquin-Ohlson, Head of Cargoes and Technical Cooperation Coordination, Subdivision for Maritime Technology and Cargoes; and Antti Nironen Technical Officer, Subdivision for Maritime Technology and Cargoes. This significant meeting covered a range of critical topics, including safety and security, sustainability, digitalisation of transport documents, and trade facilitation. The occasion also marked the formal announcement of Leticia Cherini as the official FIATA delegate to the IMO, reinforcing FIATA's commitment to active engagement within the organisation.
During the meeting, Mr Hiroyuki Yamada and his colleagues expressed their strong interest to collaborate with FIATA, offering support to maximise the value of FIATA's membership within the IMO. The unique role of FIATA as the sole representative of freight forwarders in the IMO was strongly acknowledged, underscoring the organisation's importance in amplifying the voice of freight forwarders in discussions addressing the challenges faced by the global maritime sector.
This meeting provided a pivotal opportunity to strengthen FIATA’s position as an observer member of the IMO. It also explored avenues for deeper collaboration, recognising that addressing the complex challenges of today’s supply chain requires the collective effort of all stakeholders.
Meet the FIATA at Logimotion in Dubai, 10-11 December 2024
Dr Stéphane Graber, FIATA Director General, will be attending Logimotion, Global Trade & Infrastructure Summit where he will present on "Transforming Global Trade with Electronic Bills of Lading: Streamlining Processes and Enhancing Security". His presentation will explore the significant advantages of digital transformation in global trade, including the acceleration of trade processes by enabling quicker document exchange and reducing delays. He will also underscore how digitalisation improves global accessibility by allowing real-time access and updates for trade partners, increases efficiency in documentation handling and management across the supply chain, and facilitates compliance with international trade regulations through standardised digital documents, while showcasing the pioneering role of the FIATA digital Bill of Lading in driving these advancements.
In addition to his presentation, Dr Graber will be part of the panel "Exploring the Impact of IoT and Digital Twins on Infrastructure Development", where leading experts will discuss the utilisation of IoT for real-time monitoring and management of infrastructure projects, the implementation of digital twin technology to simulate and optimise infrastructure performance, and how advanced data analytics and IoT are enhancing predictive maintenance. The panel will also cover how integrated digital solutions are improving project planning and execution and will feature Zaid Hamzah, Executive Education Fellow at the National University of Singapore, School of Computing; Paul Doherty, IFMA Fellow, DFC Senior Fellow, President and CEO of The Digit Group, Inc, US; and Mahmoud Ahmed Mohamed, Head of Commercial GCC at TAD Logistics and TAD Environment, UAE. The session will be moderated by Nasser Massoud, Founder & Managing Director of Concept Realisation, UAE.
